◊ Southwest Tours is proud to spend more time in the Grand Canyon area than any other tour company in Phoenix!
You will be hard-pressed in finding words to describe the beauty and grandeur of the Grand Canyon National Park. It is at the top of the list of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. Southwest Tours offers you a comfortably paced outing in the company of one of our professional Driver-Guides. Our tour vans have been specially customized with improved seating and an onboard speaker system for a relaxed and enjoyable ride.
Flagstaff:
We pass thru Flagstaff, home to the Historic Mother Road, Route 66, and travel to the largest Native American reservation in North America; the Navajo Nation. With just a little over 16 million acres, the scenic beauty of this area is almost as impressive as the Grand Canyon. Views of the Painted Desert and the San Francisco Peaks’ snow covered mountains are featured in this part of the voyage.
Navajo Indian Reservation:
Lunch will be at the historic Cameron Trading Post. Established in 1915, this landmark is still the center of commerce in the area. The menu at the Cameron Trading Post restaurant is a pleasant mingling of American, Mexican, and local Navajo cuisine. While you will find all your traditional favorites, you can also enjoy a more adventurous culinary experience. Vegetarian meals are available.
The Grand Canyon:
After some sightseeing and shopping at the trading post we enjoy views of the Little Colorado River Gorge before reaching our destination - The Grand Canyon National Park.
Unlike some tour providers, Southwest Tours designs their tours to give you the most relaxing time possible at the Grand Canyon. You’ll enjoy three full hours with one of our experienced Tour Guides at Grand Canyon National Park. You can make many photo memories from their carefully chosen and spectacular overlooks.
Around 4:30pm we head back down to the Valley of the Sun stopping again in the Verde Valley for a quick dinner before bringing you right back to the hotel where we picked you up.
You will be amazed at all you have seen and experienced on your Grand Canyon tour.
The Sonoran Desert:
After an early morning pick up at your Phoenix/Scottsdale area resort, our journey takes you north, through the magnificent Sonoran desert. You will be amazed at all the desert has to offer. The knowledge of our driver-guides of the history, geology and flora and fauna will make the time pass swiftly.
As your tour continues, you see millions of years of geological history in all directions – the changes in our planet are revealed in massive formations of mountains, plateaus, mesas, buttes, and hoodoos.
Navajo Point - with views of the Colorado River and the Painted Desert. This is often your first introduction to the vast plateaus of Northern Arizona.
Lipan Point - Our tour guides tell us this is their favorite view point. On a clear day you can often hear the river and see rafts make their way thought the world famous Hance Rapids. As one of the longest rapids in the Grand Canyon, it has a drop of over 70 feet in just one mile.
Grand View Point - the former home of the Grand Hotel and The Grand View Trail. The trail was built by hard rock miners who were looking for a more direct route out of the Grand Canyon with their newly discovered Copper ore.
The Yavapai Geology Museum – This location gives you a thorough introduction into the formation of the Grand Canyon and its fantastic fossil record and may be the starting point for our optional self guided walk along the Rim of the Grand Canyon. The walk affords you the opportunity to escape some of the crowds and take incredible photos at your own pace.
We know that viewing options are many. Your Guide will be on hand at each stop to offer interesting facts about the area, help you take that perfect picture, and make the most of this truly unique destination.
